In light of the recent winter weather leading to several multi-vehicle accidents, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has announced that the section of Interstate 90 that crosses through the commonwealth will be closed until May 1st
“This is the only way to guarantee there won’t be any accidents,” said PennDOT spokesman Andy Hummel. “Plus it will save on salt.” Drivers who normally use the Interstate are asked to detour onto much safer roads, like Routes 5 and 20.
Local tow truck operators are not happy with this announcement. “Snowy days on I-90 are what put my seven children through college,” said Bobby Stinson, owner of Tow Jam Towing.
PennDOT says they may re-open I-90 in April if there’s a warm spell.
It must be true……I saw it on the internet!

Bobby Stinson of Tow Jam Towing: what if it were one or all seven of your children involved in the accidents? Would you still be upset about it being closed due to the danger to peoples lives?

You are well within your rights to contact Mr. Stinson and inform him , in no uncertain terms, that you will never use Tow Jam Towing.

Come on guys, I don’t know Mr. Stinson, but I’m sure he doesn’t want to see anybody get hurt or killed.

If that was what you did for a living in pretty sure you would be saying the same thing so do not say anything about what Stinson said I think it’s reasonable and also he didn’t say he wants anyone killed or hurt so no harm no foul.

I know Bob. He had 5 daughters that died on 90 in a bus fire. Their bus overheated and somehow the wiring caught on fire while waiting for plows to clear a drift on the highway 6 years ago. Bob is OK, he didn’t want daughters.

That’s funny!!!! I wouldn’t care if they closed it – I avoid that stretch like the plague in the winter – people driving too fast and too close together. No, thank you – I’ll take my time, go an alternate route, and be safe!

I see the sheepeople are in alive and we’ll in Erie, Pa. Not to worry the local weather person is reporting mid 90’s next week. To bad for Tow Jam towing, I personally prefer Willy Hookem towing & Sheep Shearing Emporium for all of my towing and personal grooming needs.

There was that alleged incident with Willy and some of his client’s sheep but we never could get a solid lead on that story.

Given the competency of PennDOT, this could very well be a good option in their mind -or lack thereof. Yes, they could save salt and overtime. What a plan!

If people stop driving to fast for road conditions then it will not be closed u are not in a snowmobile or Daytona 500 racetrac learn to drive safe and slow down for road conditions its common sense stupid idiots just fuck shit up for everybody thank you idiots I drive in the snow every year I never been in a accident or lost control why I don’t drive to fast for rd conditions I pay attention to what I am doin our life is more important than trying to drive to fast if you are in a hurry you should of lift your house more early then to drive to fast and put other life’s in danger what happened if you drive to fast and stupid and u get in a wreck and kill little child that’s your fought or somebody else fought slow down and pay attention you well not lost control or wreck pay attention its easy and common sense

Wow what a bunch of dumb ass government officials, maybe if idiot drivers would be banned.
Can u imagine shutting down I80 in Wyoming permanently, no of course not they just know how to manage there highway system.
If I was the citizens I would recall those officials they don’t own the roads the public does.

I am deeply disturbed by the derogatory comments being made about Bobby Stinson of Towjam towing. I have known Mr. Stinson — he was known as “Bubby” to us — for over 40 years, and his integrity and professionalism have never been questioned .. except for maybe that one time in 1978. (See the “Harold G. Reslink Exchange Incident”)
The fact that he put seven children through college should be a point of admiration, not scorn. (And surprise, also, since Bobby himself was in Special Ed at Gridley and East, and was never known as the sharpest knife in the drawer.) And his commitment to his hometown is apparent. Instead of contributing to Erie’s brain drain, all seven of Booby’s well-educated children live at home in his basement and are employed part-time at Towjam — except for Bubby, Jr., of course. (See “Meth Lab discovered in scrap yard”, Erie times-News, October, 2013)
Mr. Stinson deserves the same respect and dignity that an actual real-life person would get.

Maybe if they widened I-90 they might have fewer accidents. There are too many cars on that highway that they need to thin out traffic by adding another lane.
